The Tiger Leaping Stone & My New GoPro

Today I’d like to share a quick video from the end of my trek along Tiger Leaping Gorge. As you may recall from my prior post on TLG, I made the descent to the Jinsha River on my own, but a little old Chinese woman was kind enough to take my photo as I ran across the rickety bridge over troubled water. Legend has it that a tiger leaped across the rapids and that’s how this gorge in the eastern himalayas got it’s name.

The video is kind of pathetic, because I took it with my iPhone. The same iPhone I drop face down on the pavement on a regular basis. Hopefully it’s still worth watching, but I’m excited to say that things are about to get a lot more interesting!

I asked Santa (A.K.A. Dad) for a GoPro this year and my wish has been granted! I can’t wait to share awesome videos of my experiences over the next few months. At the end of January, I’ll get some footage of sledding on the sand dunes in Mui Ne, Vietnam and cruising along the famously beautiful Ha Long Bay. In February, I’m sure I’ll take some amazing (g-rated) video of the world famous Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, Thailand. Then I’ll head to the temples at Angkor Wat, Cambodia and who knows where else. Aren’t you excited just thinking about it?! I sure am. Thanks, Santa!

Trust me, I know that most of you are chained to a desk. I was you a few months ago and I’m sure I’ll be in that position again sooner than I’d like to admit. Unfortunately, I realize that I can’t avoid responsibility and go on globetrotting forever. But I’m thrilled about the opportunity to help you all live vicariously from home or figure out where to plan your next vacation. It also won’t hurt to archive these adventures so when I’m old and gray I have proof to show my (hypothetical) kids and grandkids that once upon a time, I was (sort of) cool and lived life to the fullest, too.

Anyway, enjoy the video (click here to watch it on YouTube) and get excited for what’s to come!
